Foot on the brake. Drivers using the La Vrine junction in Val d’Usiers, in Doubs, must learn to reduce speed. From now on, the speed is limited to 50 km/h, compared to the previous 70 km/h, France Bleu informs us this Tuesday, October 22. A decision that comes after another fatal accident that occurred at the beginning of the month.
For this reason, some neighbors have launched a petition to demand measures to ensure the crossing between the RN57 and the RD48, which is problematic. Some of them campaigned for the creation of two lanes. Therefore, the solution of reducing the speed limit was adopted. According to the mayor of Val d’Usiers, Aurélien Dornier, it was time to act.
An insufficient device?
However, the councilor is not satisfied with the new situation. According to the elected official, we must go much further to guarantee the safety of all motorists at this intersection. The authorities “have implemented the cheapest device to try to calm tensions a little, but I don’t think it will recover the people who died or calm the grieving families,” he laments.
According to Aurélien Dornier, the money raised from fixed radars should be “reinvested in devices.” In this way, the road would no longer be “adapted to traffic, to the numerous types of vehicles, motorcycles that pass” along this route all day, explains the mayor. Therefore, you wait for new measures to be taken and put in place before you can really rejoice.
