New car registrations increase in the first quarter

According to data published by the Automotive Platform, new passenger car registrations increased by 24.2% in March and by 15.2% in the first quarter as a whole.

The improvement continues for the automobile market. According to figures published this Saturday by the Automotive Platform (PFA), new passenger car registrations increased by 24.2% in March compared to March 2022, with 182,712 new cars put into circulation. If we also include utility vehicles, the trend remains positive with 218,084 vehicles, an increase of 20.4%, indicates the PFA, which represents manufacturers and equipment manufacturers.

In the first quarter as a whole, new passenger car registrations increased by 15.2% compared to the previous year, with 420,887 vehicles. When adding the utilities, the counter rises to 509,259 vehicles, 11.7% more.

dacia stands out

On the brand side, the month of March 2023 was especially driven by Peugeot (+35%, 29,158 units), Renault (+30.2%, 27,172 units), Citroën (+18.8%, 16,444 units) and Dacia (+19.4%, 15,189 units). Fiat (+20.6%, 3,905 units) and Opel (+28.7%, 4,381 units) also posted good results.

In the first quarter, Dacia (+32.8%, 38,627 units), Opel (+21.1%, 10,507 units), Renault (+19.1%, 62,474 units) and Toyota (+17.4%, 24,977 units) stand out. units). DS also performed well (+17%, 6,592 units). On the other hand, the quarter is gloomier for Peugeot (+9%, 66,898 units) and even negative for Citroën (-7.2%, 33,785 units).

Although the French market registered its eighth consecutive month of growth, sales remained below the pre-crisis level.

15.4% for electric

Regarding motorization, electric vehicles represented 15.4% of sales in the first quarter, compared to 11.9% the previous year. Hybrid vehicles, including plug-in hybrids, accounted for 30.9% of sales, up from 28.8% the year before. Gasoline vehicles accounted for 38.5% of sales, roughly the same level as in 2022, while diesel vehicles fell to 11.2% of sales (16.5% in the first quarter of 2022).
