Elisabeth Borne announced on Sunday that tobacco taxes will not increase next year and confirmed in an interview with RTL that disposable puff e-cigarettes will be banned “soon”.
“This does not mean that we are not very attentive to tobacco consumption,” Élisabeth Borne clarified, pointing out that “tobacco causes 75,000 deaths a year.” A “huge” figure and “a major public health problem.”
A national tobacco control plan
Thus, Elisabeth Borne specifies that the Government “will soon present a new national plan to fight against smoking, in particular with the ban on disposable electronic cigarettes, the famous puffs that instill bad habits in young people,” she specified.
With its childish, sweet or fruity flavors (marshmallow, iced caramel, chocolate with hazelnuts, etc.), its brightly colored packaging reminiscent of candies and its low price that ranges between eight and 12 euros for 500 puffs, the puff, that exists in twenty brands, concerned that it is aimed at adolescents, while the electronic cigarette is prohibited for minors.
