The Court of Auditors launched on Monday its third “citizen participation” campaign, an initiative launched in 2022 that allows citizens over 15 years of age each year to suggest research topics to the Court or to regional audit chambers.
“The aim of this initiative is to raise awareness of the importance of transparency, the effectiveness of public action and accountability in the management of public funds,” he added.
Participants may submit their proposals to the financial courts until October 4, at this address. The research topics selected by the financial courts will be announced in January 2025.
By the end of the morning, around ten contributions had been posted on the platform. For example, one participant asked the Court to assess the “costs” and the “evolution” of the number of unemployed civil servants in the three public services (State, hospital, territorial). Another user of the platform invited the court to analyse “the effectiveness of support systems for female entrepreneurship”.
19,000 contributions last year
In 2022, for the first “citizen participation” campaign, “more than 9,000” citizens submitted or supported proposals on the platform, according to a statement from the Court. Six research topics were maintained: use of the State for consulting companies, public support for hunting federations, gender equality, etc.
By 2023, “more than 19,000 citizens” had participated in the campaign. Twenty-five research topics were selected and distributed between the Court (10) and the regional audit chambers (15).
The last of the six reports of the 2022 campaign, dedicated to “inclusive schools”, will be published “during the month of September”, the Court announced. A report of the 2023 campaign entitled “The National Forestry Office faces the challenge of ecological transition” will also be published at the end of this month.
