“A strange noise”: another problem with Boeing’s Starliner space capsule

The ship is expected to return to Earth normally, without its passengers, on Friday, September 6.

Another humiliation for Boeing and its Starliner space capsule? On Saturday, one of the astronauts sent to the International Space Station (ISS) where the Starliner is docked informed NASA of a “strange noise” coming from inside the ship.

It is the American Barry Wilmore who calls the American space agency by radio, as can be seen from this recording that has been circulating on social media.

“I have a question about Starliner,” he said. “There’s a strange noise coming from the speaker… I don’t know what’s causing it.”

He says it’s “a kind of pulsating noise, almost like a sonar ping. I’m going to let you scratch your head to see if you understand what’s going on,” he says.

NASA has not yet commented on the warning, as Starliner continues to suffer disappointments.

Remember that the capsule will return to Earth months late this Friday, September 6. Above all, it must return empty, without its astronauts, due to uncertainties about its suitability for flight, following incidents observed during its flight, in particular helium leaks and problems with the propellant.

Launches to the station were also cancelled several times after years of incidents. successive postponements.

After making the initial crew of Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams wait on board the ISS, NASA decided that they would be repatriated next February using a spacecraft from SpaceX, Elon Musk’s company. A real snub for Boeing.

Ten years ago, NASA ordered two new vehicles from the American companies Boeing and SpaceX to transport its astronauts to the ISS. SpaceX has already been playing this role as a space taxi for four years, while Boeing is repeatedly failing and playing on its reputation.
