Budget: MEPs reject the allocation allocated to the European Union

The RN elected officials had just reduced this sum allocated to the European Union from 23 to just over 18 billion euros.

This Friday, October 25, the deputies rejected the tax in the state budget dedicated to the European Union, which the National Group had just reduced by 5 billion euros.

Suspension of the session

The RN elected officials, who opposed this contribution of more than 23 billion to Brussels, first won in a narrow vote (by 91 votes to 87), reducing this sum to just over 18 billion.

Political blow received with applause in the extreme right seats and changes of mood in the center and on the left. The RN deputy Bryan Masson immediately denounced a “hand of honor” from the environmentalist Sandrine Rousseau, which caused the suspension of the session before the vote on the modified article.

During these few minutes, the RN deputies recalculated their accounts in the rooms adjacent to the chamber, even going so far as to look for possible stragglers in the refreshment bar or in the bathrooms.

A voted text, but not definitive

Back in the session, the flame party then voted to validate the envelope, in the version it had just modified downwards. But their votes, as well as those of their Ciottista allies and the LR deputies present, were not enough: by 112 votes to 101, the left and some centrists rejected the article, while the majority of Macronists abstained.

A “victory” immediately claimed over X by the head of the LFI deputies, Mathilde Panot.

However, the text thus modified is not definitive. It can still evolve thanks to the parliamentary shuttle or a possible activation of article 49.3 by the Government to approve the budget.
