“It is the government line”: Antoine Armand asks to look “savings first” for the 2025 Budget

In BFM Business, the Minister of Economy assured that he is in the same line as Michel Barnier in defending, first of all, spending cuts instead of tax increases.

Antoine Armand persists and signs. After warning against “imposing too many taxes” in the context of Budget 2025 discussions, the Economy Minister asked BFM Businesses to work on spending reduction first:

Before denying any disagreement with the Prime Minister about the line to follow, after the mini-controversy of recent days: “I am Michel Barnier’s minister, I defend the government’s policy. (…) The Prime Minister said it from the first day: it is a budget that must first allow savings and then exceptional, temporary and specific taxes and we are working on that with parliamentarians,” he stated.

“The Prime Minister stays his course”

The Bercy tenant has caused a mini-storm in recent days by opposing the Prime Minister’s elimination of reductions in business contributions, even reduced from four to three billion euros by the Senate. “It is not by hitting companies and increasing the cost of labor that we create jobs and growth,” declared Antoine Armand, for whom it is necessary to “be alert to excessive taxes.”

Matignon responded by explaining that “the Prime Minister maintains his course and does not fall into sterile controversies.”
