Arceormittal: Macron rejects nationalization and ensures that Dunkerque and Fos-Sur-Mmer sites will be “stored”

During an interview in TF1, Emmanuel Macron announces that Eclimittal will not be nationalized. The President of the Republic also announced that the Dunkerque (North) and Fos-Sur-Mer (Bouche-Du-Rhône) sites would be “saved.”

“I will not nationalize Arceormittal because I would spend billions of euros,” said Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, however, stating, however, “eyes in his eyes” that Dunkerque (north) and Fos-Sur-Mer (Bouche-Du-Rhône) sites would be “saved.”

The second world steel manufacturer, which fights with a historic steel crisis in Europe, plans to eliminate around 600 positions in seven industrial sites in northern France.

“The answer is not nationalization”

“The answer is not nationalizing (but) having development guarantees,” said the head of state during an interview in TF1, where he faced the general secretary of the CGT, Sophie Binet.

“We must establish what is called safeguard clauses, that is, protect the European market. We begin to make this decision under French pressure: the commission announced it in February,” he added.

“We are going to save and Dunkerque and Fos, I tell you eyes on the eyes, not nationalizing but having a European policy that protects our steel,” said Emmanuel Macron.

ArcelorMittal employees throughout France were demonstrated on Tuesday in the Paris region to defend their work.

The destiny of the metallos is mobilized in the political class, of the left that states, such as the CGT, a nationalization of the French stoves, of the former Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, who considered that it was necessary to do everything to save Arceormittal in Dunkerk, without excluding a “temporary” and “last resort” nationalization if the company did not do the obligations.

At the end of 2024, Arceormittal suspended its final investment decision, up to 1.8 billion euros, more than 800 million aid promised by the State, to decarbonize the high Dunkerque fools, arguing the non -competence of the steel produced in Europe.

The particular stereista exerted pressure on the European Commission, asking for a “rapid” application of the European Plan for steel to recover competitiveness, before announcing whether or not to invest.
