It’s been a while since Henry Cavill last appeared on our screens as Geralt of Rivia The sorcerer. The fantasy series has recently finished production of the third season and the expectation of the fans seems to be growing day by day. However, before the list of new episodes, some bittersweet news emerged. Netflix has officially confirmed that the show has already been renewed for a fourth season. However, Cavill will not return as the protagonist. And, interestingly, her fan-favorite role has already been recast.
Henry Cavill has also confirmed that he will not put the armor and sword back when The sorcerer production begins in season 4. Apparently, the British star will be replaced in the role by none other than Liam Hemsworth. Cavill released a statement, shared by the streamer, on his Instagram in which he reflected on his time playing Geralt and sent some good wishes to his successor:
My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been full of monsters and adventures, and sadly, I will be leaving my medallion and swords for season 4. In my place, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will take on the role of White. Wolf. As with literary greats, I pass the baton with reverence for my time as Geralt and with excitement to see Liam’s version of this charming, nuanced man. Liam, good sir, this character has such wonderful depth that he likes to dive in and see what he can find.
Liam Hemsworth, who audiences probably know from films like The hunger games Yes Independence Day: Rebirth, he also talked about his new concert. The star, a self-proclaimed fan of the fantasy franchise, shared his own statement expressing his gratitude to his predecessor for handing him over. It also appears that the 32-year-old is ready to take a stand on the continent:
As a Witcher fan, I am thrilled with the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill was an incredible Geralt and I am honored that he handed me the reins and allowed me to face the blades of the White Wolf for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and have been inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have great boots to fill, but I’m really excited to enter the world of The Witcher.
It’s a big surprise, to say the least. Honestly, it’s pretty sad to know that the Mission Impossible alum is leaving the show, especially since he played Geralt so convincingly. However, he seems more than confident that Liam Hemsworth can do the role justice. At the very least, we can already say that the Australian actor will bring a significant level of physique to the role.
One can’t help but wonder what exactly prompted Henry Cavill to leave the show. This is likely due to his huge schedule of work, which more recently has included films such as the critically acclaimed. Enola Holmes 2 and the next to go out clay. And of course, there’s also that other little gig Cavill recently picked up in the DC Universe. The actor is officially back as Superman and is already anticipating a “bright future” for the character. That said, Warner Bros. may be looking to hire him for movie engagements that might tie him up for a while.
On the other hand, it could allow Liam Hemsworth to explore interesting new territories and spread his wings as an actor. Sure, he’s no stranger to roles involving combat, but the actual character is a little different than many he’s played in the past. Aside from that, I’m curious if he can deliver more intense fights for Geralt, who was actually fought by Henry Cavill. With this new development, we wish both players the best in their respective paths.
