To be completely honest, we’re still a little shocked this crazy she-hulk the final where Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) has so far broken the fourth wall, she found herself in the headquarters of Marvel Studios, opposite the “real” president of the MCU. It was a fitting destination for a series that teased non-stop and saw its main character comment on events in real time, such as when his cousin Brice Banner (Mark Ruffalo) introduces this new character in the last moments of the finale. There’s also a moment in the finale that still makes me laugh every time I watch it, and when I got a chance to play him as Maslany, he explained that THAT moment was also a meta reference aimed primarily at the cast and crew.
Needless to say, Tatiana Maslany was charming as Jen Walters, and despite all the humor she-hulk it didn’t come upon me in every episode, I personally loved Maslany’s complete lack of ego and willingness to try anything for the punchline. In a crucial showdown with KEVIN in the finale, Walters played the part of every Marvel fan when he asked the omniscient mind when we would finally bring the X-Men to the screen. So, he made this amazing face:
It seemed like an unusual choice. But Tatiana Maslany actually had a very specific reason for making that hysterical face when she looked directly at the camera after asking KEVIN about the future of mutants in the MCU, like he told Gossipify :
I love writing in this (scene), I like it so much. It is like this “in Jen’s brain”. But even this moment for me: Jessica Gao’s husband Truck (Torrence) is an illustrator who made She-Hulk hats. And one of them is like (faces) this face. And it came out then! Because he had made these hats like … so he was like this nice kind of, yet, another meta element of this whole show.
I didn’t even need to know about She-Hulk’s hats to laugh at the face Tatiana Maslany chose to make in the finale. Knowing it’s a nod to hats made for the cast and crew is just the icing on an already fun cake. If you have a Disney + subscription , but I still didn’t like the series, at least give it a chance at the end of the series. It’s a lot of fun and there are also other scenes between Maslany and the excellent Charlie Cox. Damn, they have incredible chemistry.
We still don’t know if she-hulk will be renewed for a second season and lead writer Jessica Gao I did not want to address the subject so shortly after the end. But given the sitcom style of the show, it would be all too easy to think of more legal cases for Jen Walters to go through … but there are plenty too. wonder movie coming soon who could use She-Hulk as a valuable addition. We will see!
