Many great directors have contributed to the canon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, but few have achieved acclaim on the level of Ryan Coogler. I met Ryan Coogler last weekend on press day in Los Angeles Black Panther: Wakanda forever, and while we’ve covered a lot of topics (stay tuned for more stories here on Gossipify!), our conversation ended talking about the future. I asked him if he would direct a neighbor Avengers it was something he was interested in and explained that his personal multitasking skills prevented him from saying anything compromising:
This is a very good question. As a work, you know, personally and hopefully no offense: I can, as a writer and director, I can only do what I have in front of me, you know what I’m saying? I’m pretty bad at multitasking when it comes to that, you know? I’ve never really been able to multitask. Usually if I’m trying to figure out something else while I’m doing something, what I’m doing is affected, you know? So I like to focus on that, bring this movie to the world, and then I’ll start thinking about what I want to do next, if I want to do something soon, you know? A lot has gone into this.
“There was a lot going on in this” is obviously an understatement, so your point is much appreciated. Ryan Coogler’s deal with Marvel to do Black Panther: Wakanda forever dates back to October 2018, which means it is nearing the end of a four-year journey with the project. Not only is making a film a huge undertaking in its own right (mostly multimillion-dollar blockbusters), but it’s also a job that was done with a lot of emotional energy following Chadwick Boseman’s death in August 2020. L The writer / director clearly has put all his effort into making the 2022 film, and that naturally meant focusing on the task at hand and not thinking about ‘what’s next’.
What will happen after November 11 when Black Panther: Wakanda forever comes out in theaters? We will have to wait and see.
