Is homeopathy effective? According to Mónica García Gómez, Spanish Minister of Health, no. In his account X, he considered homeopathy “a scam to the detriment of patients’ money and health.”
“We do not take into account insults to scientific evidence. On the contrary: we are working to fight pseudotherapies on different fronts,” he argued.
“To heal you need something more than water and sugar”
In 2019, the Spanish government launched a campaign against homeopathy titled “To heal yourself you need more than water and sugar.” The authorities then required homeopathic laboratories to carry out efficacy tests similar to those of conventional medicine.
At that time, the country had two million users of homeopathic products.
In France, homeopathy has also been the subject of debate. In February 2024, a doctor was sanctioned on appeal for an article against homeopathy. As of January 1, 2021, homeopathy products are no longer refundable. At that time, the Minister of Health, Agnès Buzyn, followed the advice of the High Health Authority, which considered that the effectiveness of homeopathy was not proven.
