Censorship of Michel Barnier: Marine Le Pen waits for the joint committee to make its decision

The president of the RN MPs still wants to give the Prime Minister a chance in the budget. Marine Le Pen is counting on a possible agreement between deputies and senators on the finance bill before deciding whether or not to overthrow the government.

Marine Le Pen takes the pressure off. After once again brandishing the threat of a motion of censure after a meeting with Michel Barnier this Monday, November 25, the president of the RN deputies finally softens things.

The National Group intends to wait for the joint committee to make its decision before deciding to support or not a motion of censure, according to information from BFMTV.

Michel Barnier “firm in his positions”

The former presidential candidate reminded the Prime Minister this morning of “her red lines”, which would lead her to support a motion of censure. Among them we find in particular the Denial of an increase in taxes on electricity. and the fact that not all retirees They will not see their pension increased entirely by the amount of inflation.

The head of the Government “appeared to me to be both courteous and firm in his positions”, judged Marine Le Pen as she left her interview in Matignon.

But ultimately, the former Flame Party boss wants to give herself time. Now it depends on the joint committee (CMP), this body made up of 7 deputies and 7 senators in charge of agreeing on a common version of the budget.

An agreement that would contain the provisions that bother Marine Le Pen

The CMP will meet in the days following the solemn budget vote in the Senate on December 12. It could possibly return to the budget provisions that upset Marine Le Pen. If the deputies and senators manage to agree, the text will return to the National Assembly for a solemn vote on December 18.

But even in this case, Michel Barnier has every chance of using 49.3, that institutional cartridge that allows a text to be adopted without a vote by deputies. Indeed, in the absence of an absolute majority, even the budget that managed to satisfy the CMP has little chance of largely satisfying the Assembly.

49.3 then opens the possibility of presenting a motion of censure that Marine Le Pen can always support. In the event of a vote by RN deputies and left-wing deputies, the head of government will be overthrown.

Barnier defends “stability”

But the former presidential candidate’s desire to give the CMP a chance suggests that if the Prime Minister accepts the agreement signed between senators and deputies, his troops would not be able to vote in favor of the motion of no confidence.

In fact, article 49.3 leaves Michel Barnier the possibility of including in his budget only the provisions he wishes. To appease Marine Le Pen, he could finally decide to remove the provisions that bother her from the finance bill.

Enough to allow Matignon’s tenant to keep his job for the coming months. Michel Barnier assured the Congress of Mayors on Thursday that the French aspired to “stability, serenity.”
