Maud Bregeon defends a “big step” by the executive towards its political adversaries. Guest of France 2 this Friday, November 29, the government spokesperson responded to the ultimatum given the day before by Marine Le Pen, who demanded from Michel Barnier several changes to the budget project to avoid censorship.
The RN is still waiting, until Monday, for concessions on the revaluation of the pensions of all retirees on January 1 and the cancellation of the reimbursement of medications initially planned. And this, after having already obtained a political “victory”: the abandonment of a new tax on electricity.
“It takes two to find compromises,” responds Maud Bregeon. The government spokesperson asks: “Do Madame Le Pen and the National Rally really want to allocate a budget to France? Or do Marine Le Pen and the National Rally want to send France against the wall?”
However, he rejects any donation to the RN: “we listen to the 577 deputies and through them to the 65 million French people.”
Especially since the last promise offered to avoid censorship was probably not followed by an equivalent reduction in spending, to compensate for the shortfall in state coffers, i.e. 6 billion euros in this measure alone.
A measure without financing?
Asked about this point, Maud Bregeon replied: “Sometimes I really want to refer these questions (about the corresponding savings, ed.) to those who ask us for new concessions every day.” The elected official, however, confirms that the budget path of 5% deficit remains, while France is moving towards 6.1%.
To satisfy the national demonstration, Barnier’s government has also planned a cut in State Medical Aid (AME), foreseeing a reduction in the “care basket”, that is, the treatments that can be covered free of charge. The truth is that, for the spokesperson, the best solution would be to control “illegal immigration”, thus underlining the work of her Interior colleague, Bruno Retailleau.
