“We could never have heard the bells again.” Emmanuel Macron expressed the “gratitude of the French nation” to “all those who saved, helped and rebuilt Notre-Dame de Paris”, during the cathedral’s reopening ceremony, after five years of work following its devastating fire.

“Tonight the bells of Notre-Dame are ringing again”, bells that “marked the hours of the day and those of History”, he declaimed again, before a crowd made up of French and international personalities and people who worked on the restoration of the building.
