The macronie does not hide, this Saturday night, some relief after this fourth day of inter-union mobilization against the pension reform throughout France, while Jean-Luc Mélenchon had announced “the largest social mobilization in half a century”.
“No explosion effect,” interprets a minister. He is joined by a senior executive: “It’s not really increasing.”
According to the CGT, more than 2.5 million people demonstrated throughout France, more than on Tuesday (almost two million) and less than on January 31 (2.8 million). On the side of the Ministry of the Interior, 963,000 demonstrators gathered, against 757,000 people on Tuesday and 1,272,000 on January 31.
Relief and firmness
“Nothing will change,” says a renaissance deputy on the front line about this reform, imperturbable. Of course: we do not touch 64 (legal retirement age) or 43 (number of life annuities).
A tenor of the majority adds: “It is the simple translation of the unpopularity of a reform that we assume. Now it is played in Parliament.”
The Assembly: here is the light at the end of the tunnel for macronistas. “They told us it was going to be difficult. Result: not a lost vote of the week,” says an elected official. And the deputies of the majority are increasingly optimistic about a final vote on the reform, thanks to the votes of the Republicans.
Third and last positive signal underlined by a member of the Government: the conduct of the rebels and the Thomas Portes affair that shook the Chamber on Friday. “He is doing us a favor”, this minister smiles.
