Some video games create an irremediable expectation among the players. Beyond good and evil 2 is clearly one of those. Ubisoft’s game has been in development for over 5,230 days. Which makes it the video game with the longest development time in history.
First mentioned in 2008, the sequel to Beyond Good and Evil – released in 2003 – dethroned previous record Duke Nukem foreveras seen by Brendan Sinclair, the publisher of GamesIndustry.biz.
Project news increasingly rare.
The first-person shooter remained in development for 5,156 days before being offered to players in 2011. At the moment, it is still listed as a record holder in Guinness World Records. This delay is explained by several changes in the game engine to design the title, but also by the resumption of the project by Gearbox Software after the closure of the 3D Realms studio in 2009.
Beyond good and evil 2 takes place in France at the Ubisoft studio in Castelnau-le-Lez, near Montpellier. The French company had advanced the game in 2016 by offering a series of videos following the development of the title, recalls the Eurogamer site. Despite an acclaimed video at E3, the industry’s flagship show, in the summer of 2017, news about the project has become increasingly scarce.
In 2020, the production of Beyond good and evil 2 it was turned upside down with the departure of Michel Ancel, creator of the first work and of the Rayman saga.
