After having redesigned its living room speakers in spring with the arrival of the Era 100 – which succeeds the Sonos One – and the Era 300, its high-end Dolby Atmos model compatible with spatial audio instead of the Play:5, Sonos modernizes the same The first portable speaker in its range.
Here is the Sonos Move 2 that is committed to the now stereo sound quality and the autonomy that is doubled. Improvements in the interior, since the exterior remains identical to the first model with a large template that adds olive green to the traditional black and white.
Strengths
Stereo sound anywhere, anytime
The sound of the first Move was already of very good quality. The second generation moves up a category. Sonos has revised the acoustic architecture of its speaker and we now have stereo sound thanks to the presence of two tweeters. The result is a sound that may seem less powerful when comparing the two models, but is much clearer and more detailed, especially in terms of vocals, and more present with deep and dynamic bass without the sound booming, even outdoors. .
Sonos has integrated its TruePlay technology that allows you to calibrate the sound depending on the room the speaker is in by simply scanning the smartphone (iOS or Android) for it to be detected. Mais la Move 2 also benefit from the automatic calibration system that makes the appliance optimize in permanence the audio quality in function of the endroit où il se trouve, adjustant rapidement le sons d’un passage de l’intérieur à l’ abroad.
A design built to withstand any journey.
The Move 2 is a large portable speaker with a handle for easy transport. Sonos has redesigned its touch buttons on the top for more intuitive control. Activating the microphone to call Amazon Alexa or Sonos Voice Control, the home voice assistant that is quite effective at responding to you, especially when the music is loud enough, is switched to the rear in the form of a switch. But the speaker maintains a bubble-shaped button on the top to activate it occasionally.
The Sonos Move 2 is IP56 certified to resist splashes, dirt, rain, and even sunlight. With its robust chassis made of reinforced materials, it is quite resistant to shocks. The coating, especially in the darker black, can be quite receptive to fingerprints. If the speaker is passed around from hand to hand during a picnic, for example, think about it.
All music available
Like its predecessor, the Move 2 works with Bluetooth 5.0 for easy connection, without having to use the Sonos home app. It is also compatible with WiFi to be part of a Sonos ecosystem at home, in a multiroom, in stereo or in a Home Cinema system for example.
Enjoy quick access to thousands of radio stations from around the world, but also to your favorite music sources (Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, Amazon Music, TuneIn, etc.). Move 2 also supports playing content from Apple devices using AirPlay 2. It also has a USB-C input port for connecting external devices, as well as a turntable or computer using a Sonos input adapter (optional) with USB-C connectivity .
Very long lasting battery
The strengths clearly improved, although the Sonos Move 1 was not far behind. Its successor sees its autonomy increase from 11 to 24 hours of listening to audio at least. Enough to carry out any outing or evening with friends on the terrace without needing to recharge using the wireless base provided or directly via USB-C. And Sonos’ good idea is also to allow this long-lasting integrated battery to serve as an external charger for a smartphone or any other device.
An affordable speaker designed for the environment
For some time now, Sonos has made the decision to listen to its teams and its projects in terms of environmental protection and sustainability. As with the Era 100 and 300, this will affect both the speaker itself, its design, its operation and its packaging.
Thus, the Sonos Move 2 is largely made from recycled plastics and has considerably reduced its standby energy consumption by more than 40%, with an impact on your bill. Its battery is also removable for easy replacement. For packaging, the Californian brand has focused on materials from renewable sources. The ink on the labels is also designed to be environmentally friendly.
Our reservations
A template that does not work for everything
To have quality sound and excellent battery life, it is difficult to compact your elements too much. The Sonos Move is a very good sized speaker (24.1cm high x 16cm wide x 12.7cm thick for 3kg) that won’t be easy to carry around unless you leave room for it.
The price rising (again)
Audio quality is certainly moving up a notch, with the arrival of native stereo without the need to pair two speakers, and battery life more than doubles. But Sonos had already increased the price of the Move 1 due to component shortages. The Move 2 earns 50 euros more to go up to 500 euros. We would have liked a price similar to the previous one for a model intended to replace the old one that no longer has much interest in remaining in the catalog.
Conclusion
Sonos confirms the excellence of its portable speaker by giving it the same privileges as its basic home speakers (Sonos One and Era 100). The Move 2 offers extremely clear and quality sound, stereo as well, a very long-lasting battery to guarantee quiet evenings listening to music or risk-free picnic afternoons, with the possibility of recharging the smartphone in Prime. As long as you have space to take it with you.
If you want a similar spirit, not stereo, in a more compact format, Sonos has the Roam in its catalog that presents an interesting proposal, cheaper and less bulky, in addition to having a nice color.
