Elon Musk justified on X (formerly Twitter) the elimination of an account linked to Hamas, after a user asked him for explanations. The account “qassam2024”, which is known to be linked to the Palestinian group Hamas.
“A difficult decision”
“This was a difficult decision,” Elon Musk wrote. “While many government leaders, including the United States, call for the assassination of several people, we have a ‘UN exception’. If a government is recognized by the United Nations, we do not suspend its account. Hamas is not recognized by the United Nations, so the account has been suspended,” he explained.
The specialized media Business Insider explains that the account has been suspended, without the exact date of the suspension being known.
Musk’s decision was criticized by Twitter management before regaining control. “Twitter violates the principle of free expression,” he said in March 2022.
On several occasions, Elon Musk has used a survey tool to restore the accounts of controversial figures, such as conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, American politician Marjorie Taylor-Greene or masculinist influencer Andrew Tate.
