Starlink has 4 million users worldwide

The Starlink operator, which became known to the general public during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, has just surpassed 4 million users worldwide.

An undeniable success. On September 27, 2024, Starlink announced that it had passed an important milestone in its history: four million users worldwide. Present in more than 100 countries, the operator offers to cross borders to offer Internet.

A way to combat white areas

Because Starlink is not an operator like any other: it is actually a service created by Elon Musk, the American billionaire, which allows you to receive Internet through satellites located in low orbit. A technology that has proven its effectiveness over the years, because the main advantage of Starlink is to offer very fast speeds (exceeding 100 megabytes) and with especially low latency.

The offers are favored by those who are in white areas or who cannot have access to fiber. This is the case of France, where Starlink was created in 2021.

Compared to its competitors, Starlink managed to offer particularly easy service and installation, convincing the less tech-savvy to join.

Furthermore, the speed of execution and the reliability of the devices used also allow Starlink to be a modern player. Elon Musk’s satellites are present in theaters of war, such as Ukraine or the Gaza Strip.

In a bid to diversify, Starlink launched a new offering in June 2024 that includes a miniature antenna that can be carried in a bag. In addition, in the coming years the operator plans to support calls and satellite navigation on a smartphone.

It remains to be seen whether Starlink will manage to continue its rise as Chinese competition becomes active. The country plans to launch 15,000 satellites by 2030.
