Reading, fitness, FaceTime: what Apple will offer in its virtual reality glasses

Apple is expected to launch its first virtual reality headset in the coming months, with a presentation in June.

Apple’s arrival in the world of virtual reality is taking shape. The American media Bloomberg, generally well informed on the subject, publishes details about the applications that Apple should offer with its headphones, which will be released in June. A product that could be sold for 3,000 dollars (about 3,000 euros), according to Bloomberg.

No “metaverifiers”

Unlike Facebook, Apple isn’t trying to lock users into a “metaverse,” a fully 3D universe that combines play and work. The manufacturer would bet more on augmented reality, which consists of placing virtual elements in the user’s field of vision, complemented by certain virtual reality (3D) applications.

Among the applications mentioned, the possibility of exercising with a virtual trainer, but also video conferences in real size thanks to the integration of the FaceTime function. Apple’s headphones should also offer the equivalent of many other functions (browsing the Internet in Safari, writing emails, viewing photos) inspired by dedicated iPhone and iPad apps.

Navigation with the eyes or with the hands

An Apple TV application, to access movies and series from your virtual reality headset, should logically be part of it, as well as an application dedicated to reading.

To navigate between these interfaces, the user must be able to use the movement of their eyes, but also of their hands. The headphones can also be connected to a physical keyboard, for example, for those who want to use it professionally. For Apple, the main challenge continues to be democratizing a device of this type, despite a stratospheric price and much more intrusive use than a simple smartphone in the hands.
