Russia will be “stronger” after the failed rebellion by the Wagner paramilitary group that shook Russian power last week, says Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“Russia has always come out more solid, stronger, from all the difficulties (…) This time it will continue to be like that. We already feel that this process has begun,” the minister said at a press conference in Moscow.
Minimization
The Wagner paramilitary group led a mutiny in Russia on Saturday June 24, before its leader Evgeny Prigokhine ordered his mercenaries to withdraw.
On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin also downplayed the impact of this affront, saying this “destabilization attempt” had failed.
“Practically the entire Russian society was united by responsibility, by the fatherland. All decisions were made to neutralize the danger, protect the constitutional order and the lives of our fellow citizens. The armed rebellion would have been controlled”, if it had- – he added .
However, Putin’s editorial writers, generally championing Vladimir Putin’s cause, expressed reservations about the president’s reaction during this televised address.
