Ballot box contested in Lisbon by a citizen’s double vote and two others replaced

Brazil’s Consul General in Lisbon said this Sunday that: two boxes had to be replaced due to technical problems and another was challenged with the annulment of the 59 votes because a citizen had voted twice.

During the day “there was a single incident in the polls, a voter voted twice, taking advantage of a moment, and immediately we were notified and contacted the superior court [Eleitoral] for instructions on how to proceed,” Wladimir Waller Filho said in statements to journalists at the polling station.

The ballot box was then “sealed, found to be damaged and voting continued with a canvas ballot box,” he added. The 59 votes that were in the urn had to be destroyed.

At the same time, the attaché of the Federal Police in Lisbon and his deputy “also followed the case, and the voter who took part in this act was taken to a room, a report was made, which has already been passed on to the federal police in Braziladded the Brazilian diplomat.

Wladimir Waller Filho stressed that “what was done is characterized as an electoral crime, in Article 309, and in Brazil the penalty is imprisonment for a maximum of three years”, i.e. the citizen who committed the act can go to prison to go. But since he is abroad, the Brazilian citizen who carried out the act was “released, but all reports were made,” the consul general said.

“It is very important to emphasize that the incident took place in the presence of inspectors who followed the whole process, from checking what happened, to the conversation I had with the electoral judge in Brasília and the instruction,” he underlined. .

A “note in the minutes” of that event was also made, he said.

Sunday morning, also in Lisbon, according to the consul, “two polls had a technical problem, a problem that could not be solved”. So both had to be replaced by canvas urns. “This caused a slight delay, the consul general admitted, explaining that it is only possible to replace an urn with a canvas copy with the approval of the Supreme Court.
