The White House stated this Friday that North Korea delivered more than a thousand containers of military equipment and ammunition to Russia to help in the war in Ukraine.
Speculation about a possible North Korean plan to replenish Russia’s ammunition depots, depleted in its war with Ukraine, emerged last month when North Korean leader Kim Jong-un traveled to Russia to meet with President Vladimir Putin.
This Friday, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the US believes Kim intends to obtain sophisticated Russian weapons technology in exchange for munitions to boost North Korea’s nuclear program.
The White House released images showing the containers were loaded onto a Russian-flagged ship before being transported by train to southwestern Russia.
The containers were shipped between Sept. 7 and Oct. 1 between Najin, North Korea, and Dunay, Russia, according to the White House.
Previously, the United States accused North Korea of supplying ammunition, artillery shells and rockets to Russia.
Just in the past, the North Korean leader, after meeting with Putin, called for an exponential increase in the production of nuclear weapons as his country plays a more important role in the coalition of nations confronting the United States in a “new war.” “Cold.”
In Russia, Kim deepened “ties of companionship and friendship” with Putin, North Korean state media reported.
During Kim’s six-day trip to Russia – his longest overseas trip as leader – the two countries admitted to discussing strengthening their defense ties.
