“It was exciting to meet friends and meet voters with the campaign team,” the 42-year-old told People magazine. “I hope they move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”

Barbara Bush, who defines herself as an independent, comes from a famous Republican political family. She is the daughter of former White House host George W. Bush (2001-2009) and great-granddaughter of George HW Bush, who was also President of the United States (1989-1993).

His father, who has distanced himself from politics since the end of his term, did not support either candidate. But Kamala Harris was able to count on the support of George W. Bush’s former vice president, Dick Cheney, and his daughter, Republican Liz Cheney, who accompanied the Democratic candidate to a meeting.

In the past, Barbara Bush had already declared herself in favor of abortion rights, the central issue of Kamala Harris’ campaign against her Republican rival.

During his term, Donald Trump appointed three conservative justices to the Supreme Court who overturned the federal right to abortion in 2022, allowing several states to restrict or even ban it.
