“He was absorbed by the machine”: an American died after the chain of his neck stuck in a magnetic resonance machine

The 61 -year -old man entered the exam room during a scanner while using a large metal chain on his neck. He was then absorbed by the machine and did not survive his wounds.

A man of sixty -many died in the United States, after being absorbed by a MRI device on Wednesday, July 16 in New York, reports the New York Times.

The 61 -year -old man entered the exam room during a scanner. “The victim carried a large metal chain around the neck, which attracted him to the machine,” police said in a statement. Seriously injured, he died on Thursday.

According to the authorities, the victim entered the exam room without authorization, without respecting the current orders. A witness told police that the sixties had gone to the room after listening to a family member, who approved the exam, shouting. The victim was seriously injured and attended by emergency services. An investigation was opened.

Already several accidents

Questioned by the New York Times, the Institute of Medium Images and Bioengineering recalls that the magnetic force of a magnetic resonance machine is powerful enough to project a wheelchair through a room.

“Because it uses a powerful magnetic field, a magnetic resonance requires that the patient does not have any metallic object,” recalls the Vidal site.

When presenting with jewels, mobile phones, keys, but also implantable medical devices, patients are exposed to projectile accidents, explains the National Institute for Research and Safety. Due to the magnet present in the machine, these objects are attracted to the high -speed device.

In the world, several accidents have already taken place. In 2001, a six -year -old boy died after an oxygen bottle was accidentally left in the magnetic resonance room. In 2018, in India, a man died after entering the exam room with an oxygen metal bottle.
