At least 28 people died and dozens of people are still missing after the sinking of a tourist boat that transported more than 50 people in Bay Bay in Vietnam, state media reported this Saturday, July 19.
“On the afternoon of July 19, the Wonder Sea Tourism ship that transported 53 people overturned. The border guards rescued 12 people and found 18 bodies,” the Vnexpress information site reported.
Strong and sudden rain
The ship, with 48 passengers and five crew members on board, overturned due to sudden and heavy rains on Saturday afternoon, while visiting this Unesco World Heritage site, said Dan Tri’s information site.
Halong Bay, visited by millions of people every year, is one of Vietnam’s most popular tourist destinations, recognized for its blue waters and limestone islands decorated with tropical forests.
In 2024, 30 ships sank in the coastal province of Quang Ninh, throughout Halong’s bay, after being affected by Typhon Yagi.
