‘I really want it’: US Vice President JD Vance defends his desire to see his wife convert to Christianity

The vice president of the United States is married to a woman raised as a Hindu. He has said publicly that he hopes she converts to Christianity, which has drawn criticism.

Usha Vance was born in California, San Diego, to parents who emigrated from India. She told Fox News in 2024 that their Hindu religion helped them become “really good people.” The couple met at Yale Law School and married in 2014.

JD Vance grew up in an evangelical faith and had a chaotic and private childhood, as recounted in his seminal autobiography, “Hillbilly Elegy.”

Since converting to Catholicism, the US vice president has frequently spoken about how his faith has influenced his conservative political views.
