“Incredible violence.” A knife attack that occurred this Saturday night, November 1, left ten people injured, nine of whom were in serious condition on Sunday morning.
According to a witness, it was a “terrible” scene that took place on the train heading to London’s King’s Cross station.
The police intervened around 7:40 p.m. local time (8:40 p.m. French time) at Huntingdon station, near Cambridge, and detained two people.
“Blood everywhere”
Quoted by The Sun, one witness describes the attack as “pure chaos.” “There was blood everywhere, it was a terrible scene, of incredible violence. It seemed like we were in a movie. It was unreal,” he emphasizes.
Train passenger Olly Foster also spoke to the BBC about the unreality of the moment. He said he first thought it was a Halloween prank when he heard people in the train car shout, “Run away! There’s a guy stabbing everyone.”
Speaking to Sky News, Gavin also said he heard someone on the train say: “He’s got a knife! I’ve been stabbed!” “Passengers were making their way into the car to get away from the suspects,” he continued.
An attack that “seemed like it would never end”
The same images return in the mouths of the different people who witnessed the attack, those of blood and those of the passengers trying to do everything possible to take shelter or help the wounded. Olly Foster describes seats covered in blood and a passenger trying to protect a little girl during this scene that “felt like it would never end.”
Witnesses interviewed by The Times newspaper say they saw a man armed with a large knife and passengers hiding in the train toilets for protection.
Speaking to the BBC, Wren Chambers confessed to having seen “a person very seriously injured and with blood everywhere.” “It looked like it was going to collapse,” he said. “People were trying to pass off hoodies to bandage his wound.”
After the alarm was raised, the train stopped at Huntingdon station, allowing police to intervene. According to Gavin, while restraining a suspect who was “brandishing a fairly large knife,” the police officers were “screaming ‘Get down! Get down.'” He claims they ended up arresting him after using the Taser.
