For the police, it is “a Christmas miracle”. Four young adults were found safe on Tuesday after drifting overnight on inflatable paddle boards off the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia, reports the guardian.
“Too often these types of events end in tragedy,” said Police Inspector Ian Pregnell, interviewed by Melbourne radio 3AW.
Two 18-year-old men and two women aged 18 and 19 were found around 9am local time on Swan Island, some 30 miles from where they left.

The day before, their belongings, including their cell phones and identity documents, were found on a beach around 8 pm A discovery that prompted the start of investigations to locate the four friends.
The latter were trapped in cold, turbulent waters and winds of more than 30 km/h, according to the local meteorological institute. Disoriented, they ended up running aground around 2 am and found refuge in a cabin near the beach. After the sun came up, they wandered the island before being found by security guards.
They were taken to Geelong Hospital in stable condition with no apparent injuries, according to emergency services.
