The four indigenous children, rescued after 40 days of wandering through the Colombian jungle, revealed that their mother survived the plane crash for four days before succumbing to her injuries.
“My daughter told me that her mother was alive for four days,” Manuel Miller Ranoque Morales told reporters outside the military hospital in Bogotá where children are treated.
Lesly (13 years old), Soleiny (9 years old), Tien Noriel (5 years old) and Cristin (1 year old) were found alive on Friday afternoon by rescuers, wandering alone in the jungle since the May 1 accident. of the Cessna 206 plane in which they were traveling with their mother, the pilot and a relative. All three adults died in the accident.

“Before she died, the mother told them: ‘Go ahead, go'” to join her father, explained Manuel Miller Ranoque Morales.
The Avianline Charters company plane had left a jungle area known as Araracuara to go to San José del Guaviare, one of the main cities in the Colombian Amazon, some 350 km away, before disappearing from radar. The pilot had just reported an engine problem.
The soldiers found him between May 15 and 16, standing with his nose to the ground, in the middle of dense vegetation, the pilot dead in the cockpit.
The indigenous chief and the mother of the family were also found dead, without the soldiers saying where exactly.
Children still hospitalized
The four miraculous children continue this Sunday slowly recovering in a hospital in Bogotá.
“It is a miracle from God. We thank God that he kept the children alive, ”said his father.
“As indigenous people, we showed the world what we were capable of. We found the plane, we found the children,” she said.
