Breaking down on a highway and being towed will cost motorists more starting this summer. This Tuesday a decree was published in the Official Gazette to indicate the new regulated rates for roadside assistance and towing for the 2023-2024 financial year.
Thus, for an intervention in a rest or service area during the full day, the flat rate goes from 138.01 to 144.52 euros. The price is the same for a roadside assistance service that requires towing when the vehicle in question weighs less than or equal to 1.8 tons. But it goes from 170.65 to 178.70 euros when this weight is between this threshold and 3.5 tons.
High increase in night hours, weekends and holidays
On the other hand, the price list is much more homogeneous for interventions that are carried out during the week between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., on weekends or holidays, time slots that give rise to a 50% increase. In the event of an emergency call made in these time slots or on these days, it is necessary to pay 216.78 euros for a vehicle whose weight is less than 1.8 tons and 268.05 euros if this weight is greater than 1.8 tons and within the limit of 3.5 tons.
The Ministry of the Interior recalls that “information on prices is displayed in the cabin of the damaged vehicle” and that the repairer must “submit an invoice indicating the services provided and their price” after the intervention. In case of disagreement, the motorist can file a claim by contacting the National Highway Inspection Unit of the General Directorate of Competition, Consumption and Fraud Prevention (DGCCRF).
