An astonishing mark on the ground appeared last Wednesday on the roads of Bauné, a delegated municipality of Loire-Authion, in Maine-et-Loire, reports Le Courrier de l’Ouest this Friday.
The council has drawn intertwined white lines across the width of the road, at the intersection of three departmental roads in the center of town.
The objective: “to create a visual disturbance to push people to slow down”, defend Audrey Reverault, mayor of Bauné, and Grégoire Jauneault, deputy mayor of Loire-Authion delegate for development, according to comments reported by western mail.
Elected officials say they have observed “very excessive speeds” at this crossing, evoking “peaks at 100 km/h while this area is limited to 30 km/h.” Therefore, these white lines are supposed to surprise the motorist to encourage him to slow down.
Some neighbors are puzzled
A development that is not without questions. Some residents say they are perplexed and puzzled, reports western mail. “In view of the marks on the ground, can someone explain the priority rules to me?” asks a user on social networks. “It will work the first week and it will go back to the way it was before,” she bets.
At the moment, “it works” greets in any case the mayor of the town, who observes that the cars are already moving more slowly eight days after the start-up of the urbanization.
Regarding the risk for motorcycles and bicycles of slipping on the white markings in rainy weather, “we are on a rough paint, which hangs”, defends the deputy mayor of Loire-Authion.
Finally, the elected officials recall that “these arrangements are completely legal, that they are the result of conversations with the Agglomeration and the Department and that an agreement has been signed and validated.”
