Renault will produce the future electric 4L in Maubeuge

The group confirmed this Thursday the production of its new 100% electric 4L at its factory in Maubeuge (North). Renault also confirms the production of the electric Scénic in Douai (North), where the R5 will also be produced.

Renault is expanding its French production of electric cars. The group confirmed this Thursday that the future electric 4L will be assembled at the Maubeuge (North) factory, one of the group’s pole sites dedicated to zero-emission cars in Hauts-de-France, called “ElectriCity”. Renault also confirms that the electric Scénic will be assembled at the neighboring factory in Douai (north). It is also this site where the new R5 will be produced.

Six 100% electric models assembled in Hauts-de-France

The Renault group underlines with this announcement that “it definitely places France at the center of its electrical industrial activities,” the group stressed in a press release.

In total, the “ElectriCity” division will produce six electric models: the Megane E-TECH Electric (already on the market), the New Kangoo E-TECH Electric, the future electric Renault 5, the future electric Renault Scénic, the future Electric Renault 4 and the electric model that will replace the Nissan Micra.

The diamond brand aims to produce 700,000 vehicles in France by 2024, and 100% electric sales in 2030. The manufacturer made these announcements when it should specify the details of its internal revolution at the beginning of November, the unfolding of its thermal activities that retrograde and electric that accelerates.

2,500 hires by 2024

Along with these vehicle assignments to the French sites, Renault gave an update on employment. The group highlighted that it had made nearly 1,000 hires in France since the beginning of 2022, out of the 2,500 planned for the 2022-2024 period. They follow a huge savings plan launched in 2020 to get the group out of the red zone, with 2,500 job cuts, especially in engineering.

After discussions about inflation, marked by strikes in many places, the group signed an agreement with three unions (CFE-CGC, CFDT and FO) at the end of September to “support purchasing power” that includes an exceptional bonus of 500 euros (a “Macron bonus”, without contributions to social security). Added to this is a transport bonus of 100 euros, free medical insurance for three months and the possibility of reselling three days of RTT with a 25% increase, that is, a total of 1,000 euros for “most employees ”, according to Renault.

The CGT did not sign the agreement considering these measures “insufficient” and requesting a general increase of 5,000 euros per year. The group noted that it had also brought forward annual salary negotiations from February 2023 to December 2022.

Electric cars also produced in Dieppe, Sandouville or Batilly
Near the “ElectriCity”, the Alpine factory in Dieppe (Seine-Maritime) will manufacture the future SUV of the sports brand. On the public services side, the Sandouville plant (Seine-Maritime) will take care of the new Trafic electric van, and Batilly (Meurthe-et-Moselle), the replacement of the Master, as well as a partner’s vehicle. Le Mans (Sarthe) will build the chassis linked to the new vehicles.
