This is a necessary step for those who want to pass their driving license: the highway code exam, or officially the general theoretical exam (ETG). It will be renewed starting this Tuesday, September 12, with the rewriting of the 1,037 questions that will probably be asked on the day of the test.
“Clearer” questions
Main objective of this update of the questions: to make them “clearer and more intelligible.”
“The difficulty should not be in the question, but in the answer,” Florence Guillaume, interministerial delegate for road safety, told AFP.
The new questions were written “in consultation with industry professionals,” but also with a “language simplification professional,” he said.
Taking into account the new mobility
New questions have also been added taking into account new mobility, as in the example shown below.
“A dozen new questions have been created in which the candidate must analyze situations from the point of view of another user (pedestrian, motorcyclist, cyclist, electric scooter user, driver of a heavy vehicle),” says the security statement. vial.
The images presented should also be made clearer by “replacing synthetic images with real shots captured with drones. To facilitate answers to the situational questions, the vehicles designated in the questions are now surrounded in yellow in the image.”
The last modification of the highway code exam questions dates back to 2016 and was a fiasco. The introduction of 1,000 new questions caused the success rate to drop dramatically, from 70 to 17%.
What does not change: 5 errors maximum and 5 years of validity
The exam does not change in its form: “a set of 40 questions extracted from the database randomly and personally, is sent to the candidate on a tablet or a computer,” specifies the road safety statement. And you always need at least 35 correct answers to pass the exam. “The validity period of the ETG, until obtaining the practical exam, is 5 years regardless of the number of presentations,” Road Safety also recalls.
