The trafficking of highway codes obtained in exchange for money has been dismantled, the gendarmes of the Vesoul community brigade informed AFP on Saturday, confirming information from The Republican East.
Investigators determined that a total of approximately 1,400 codes were obtained illegally as part of this nationwide trafficking.
The case began in May 2023 thanks to information obtained by community investigators from the Vesoul brigade, according to which it would be possible to obtain a highway code examination upon payment of a sum of between 250 and 600 euros.
The investigations made it possible to identify three residents of Vesoul who managed this network at the local level. They were arrested in mid-July and admitted their participation.
120,000 euros in profits
Around fifty fraudsters were identified locally and admitted to having illegally purchased cars or motorcycles under the highway code.
The investigation determined that a Dekra brand examination center located in Val-de-Marne (94) validated all these traffic codes, that is, around 1,400 traffic codes nationwide.
The manager and only employee was arrested and taken into police custody on Wednesday and admitted to the charges against him. The trafficking would have allowed him to acquire about 120,000 euros and a “large sum of money” was seized at his home, the gendarmes said.
The affected center was immediately closed by Dekra management on Wednesday.
The list of alleged fraudsters was sent by the prosecutor to all the prefectures of France to withdraw the benefit of the exams and, de facto, the license from those who obtained them.
