Stellantis announced this Tuesday, October 17, the cancellation of its presence at CES, the large technological mass scheduled for January 2024 in Las Vegas. The manufacturer with 14 brands (Jeep, Peugeot, Fiat, Chrysler, RAM, Citroën, etc.) mentions in particular the “cost” of the unprecedented strike that is affecting car manufacturers in the United States, without giving a precise figure .
A strike that also affects GM and Ford
“Given the current state of negotiations in the United States, preserving the company’s fundamentals and, therefore, protecting its future is an absolute priority for Stellantis management,” the automotive group underlines in a statement.
Stellantis and its two major competitors in the United States, General Motors and Ford, have been affected since mid-September by a strike initiated by the United Auto Workers (UAW) union, linked to the development of the next collective agreements. Nearly 34,000 employees of the three manufacturers are mobilized, of the 146,000 registered in the UAW.
“As the cost of the ongoing strike initiated by the UAW against Stellantis continues to rise, the company has decided to cancel its presence at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2024,” writes the manufacturer.
The largest consumer electronics fair.
CES, scheduled for January 9-12, 2024 in Las Vegas, is the world’s largest consumer electronics and technology trade show. An event that has also established itself in recent years as a reference show for a rapidly evolving automotive sector.
During the 2023 edition of this show, Peugeot notably presented the Inception concept, an electric prototype full of technologies and with a futuristic design.
