From diesel to hybrid, what are Uber drivers driving now?

The leader in VTC applications reveals the ranking of the vehicles most used by its drivers in 2023 in France. With a strong rise in hybrids and 100% electric compared to 2019 when Diesel was still very present.

A ranking in clear evolution. Uber has just revealed the list of the vehicles most used by its drivers in France in 2023, with significant changes compared to 2019. Meanwhile, the number of drivers has increased from 30,000 to 35,000 in the country and the VTC application is now available in 27 cities.

The Toyota C-HR and Auris ahead of the Peugeot 508

Among the most used cars today, there are few models that took the top spots four years ago, as we can see in our interactive ranking below.

This reflects a strong trend: in 2019, electric and hybrid models represented only 13% of the vehicles available on the app, compared to almost 80% today.

At the top of this 2023 ranking, we find the Toyota Auris (since it was replaced by the Corolla in the Japanese manufacturer’s range) and the C-HR tied. These two hybrid vehicles are followed in second place by the first generation of the Peugeot 508, which dominated the classification four years earlier. The Volkswagen Passat, Citroën C5 or Mercedes C Class, which circulated mainly with Diesel, have left this top 5.

Kia also appears as a new brand in this ranking of the models most used by Uber drivers with its Niro, offered in gasoline hybridization (rechargeable or not) and 100% electric.

Tesla enters the top 5 of “Uber Green”

In these models that constitute the “Uber Green” offer, Toyota logically occupies the first places, confirming its position as “king of hybrids.” The Auris/Corolla, C-HR and Prius/Prius+ and RAV4 take first place.

In second position we find the Korean Kia with its Niro SUV, which benefits from its varied offer of electrified engines, from simple hybrids to 100% electric, including plug-in hybrids. A common feature with the Hyundai Ioniq, third and in more classic notchback sedan format.

Tesla enters this top 5, just behind Ford and its hybrid Mondeo. A significant success among individuals since its launch in 2019, the Model 3 has also attracted VTC drivers.

And the Model Y, the best-selling in the world, could quickly join the Model 3 in this ranking. In fact, it is the vehicle, in all categories together, that is experiencing the most spectacular growth in a year, Uber emphasizes.

Mercedes-Tesla battle at the top of the range

The VTC operator also specifies that Tesla models have the particularity of being compatible with the three main categories of vehicles proposed in the application: “Green”, for hybrid and electric vehicles, “UberX”, its basic range offer, but also ” Sedan”. ”, with a more premium positioning.

The Model Y already appears in the ranking of the most frequent models on Uber “Sedan”, with a real battle between the American troublemaker and Mercedes, and more generally, the German brands. If the star brand still places three models in this top 5, the VTC giant remembers that the BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6 appeared well in this 2019 high-end ranking.
