This is the surprise of this day of presentation to investors of the new Renault subsidiary, Ampere. The rhombus brand has announced the launch of a new 100% electric vehicle “designed for urban use without concessions.”
An electric car for 100 euros per month
A small car that aspires to an entry price of less than 20,000 euros, not including subsidies, and rentals starting at 100 euros per month, similar to what the Government will offer with “social leasing.”
A model that completes the product plan, with the future Scénic, R5 and R4, which should be launched in the coming years, starting in 2024 for the first two and in 2025 for the last. In its statement this morning, Renault also adds the Mégane, launched in 2022, and “two complementary vehicles”.
The small electric car, presented under the name “Legend”, will be presented today, presumably in concept form.
A spring made in Europe?
The announcement of a price below 20,000 euros and this famous 100 euro rental could also suggest a variation under the Renault badge of the Dacia Spring. In fact, this model should lose its ecological bonus in France due to its place of manufacture: China.
For “Legend”, Renault announces assembly in Europe. Not involved in France, like the Mégane currently and the rest of the models already announced, which will be produced in the north of France. Renault could opt for assembly in Slovenia, where it already assembles the Twingo at the Novo Mesto plant.
A low emissions model in its production
Renault gives few details about its future “Legend”, but mentions very low consumption “with only 10 kWh/100 km”, enough to offer this model with a reduced capacity battery (and therefore less expensive) with a correct autonomy that does not have. It hasn’t been announced yet.
An important point, as the future ecological bonus, which will be announced on December 15, will take into account the manufacturing of the vehicle to grant or not the subsidy, Renault mentions “CO2 emissions were reduced by 75% compared to the average number of thermal vehicles sold”. in Europe in 2023 throughout its life cycle”, thanks in particular to “its compact size”.
