This is THE novelty of this 2022 Paris Motor Show. Just over 4 meters long and with an authentic futuristic buggy silhouette, here is the 4ever Trophy concept. Renault reinvents its legendary 4L here. This iconic car sold more than 8 million copies from the 1960s to the early 1990s in around one hundred countries.
A small 100% electric SUV
However, the 21st century 4L version is far from the original, even if certain elements will speak to historical fans. Renault’s idea remained to completely reinvent this car while maintaining its spirit. We recognize certain very 4L details such as the front with its round headlights, the design of a side window or even these taillights, but you don’t have to be a connoisseur to be seduced and see a modern vehicle that makes you want to go electric.
And in 2022, the 4L will be reborn in a 100% electric version, to make up the future zero-emission range of the diamond brand with a certain R5, which can also be found at the Renault stand at Mondial.
Renault has not yet revealed some technical details, with the 4L being just a concept at the moment. However, it will not be built on the same platform as the Mégane but on the platform dedicated to smaller vehicles, the BEV platform. Because despite its impressive looks, the new 4L is still a small car at 4.16 meters long.
A myth of adventure
With this reinterpretation, Renault’s objective is to make all generations dream, whether or not they are contemporaries of the 4L, offering the same versatility as its illustrious ancestor, capable of satisfying all the needs of these users, from a simple trip to work or go shopping, go on vacation or even have a real adventure in the desert. Hence the name of the concept: 4ever Trophy (the final name is not confirmed yet).
It pays homage to both the 4L and the 4L Trophy, this raid between young people under 28 years of age that has been held every year and since 1997 in Morocco. Hence the choice of this very high buggy format, with these impressive wheel arches, a spare wheel on the roof rack, or even the rear shovel to remove sand.
A 4L Made in France
We will have to wait a bit to discover the production version of the 4L. And one thing is confirmed: it will be made in France. In fact, Renault has confirmed that the small car will be assembled at the plant in Maubeuge (North). It should come off the chains in 2025, with a big challenge: to produce in France at a reasonable cost to offer this model at an affordable price, however, a little higher than the R5.
