2023, a record year for electric cars in France. Last year, 298,522 “zero-emission” cars were sold, that is, 16.8% of new car sales, according to figures published this Monday, January 1, by the PFA, the French manufacturers’ union.
A record level, after that reached the previous year: in 2022, 203,122 100% electric cars were sold, or 13.3% market share.
Diesel is largely behind electric cars
This engine, at the center of the European project for sales of new zero-emission vehicles only until 2035, thus surpassed diesel, in free fall, while its market share was even higher, 15.6%, in 2022.
In 2023, only 171,737 new diesel-powered passenger cars were sold, or a share of 9.7%.
Gasoline models continue to lead. With 641,588 sales, they represented 36.2% of sales, just ahead of hybrids (595,242 sales, 33.5%).
