Tesla Model Y, Dacia Spring, Model 3: what are the best-selling electric cars in France in 2023?

The Tesla Model Y finished at the top of the ranking of the best-selling 100% electric cars in France last year, ahead of the Dacia Spring and another Tesla, the Model 3. Three Renault models also complete the top 10.

2023, record year for electric cars in France. Last year, with 298,522 units, an increase of 47% compared to 2022, sales represented 16.8% of the total new market in France.

The Tesla Model Y in first place

Growth that benefited certain models, particularly the Tesla Model Y SUV. With 37,127 registered examples, it represented 12.4% of the electric market.

A model with a fairly high-end positioning, but whose Propulsion version is still entitled to the ecological bonus with a starting price of less than 47,000 euros. Enough to guarantee a success that should continue until 2024: the Tesla SUV is still entitled to the bonus because it is mainly produced in the Berlin factory.

The Dacia Spring and the Model 3 complete the podium

This is no longer the case model 3, assembled in the Shanghai factory. The sedan can no longer benefit from the ecological bonus since December 15. Result: the Model Y is currently at 41,990 euros (4,000 euros bonus from 2024 deducted) compared to 42,990 euros for the Model 3.

In this context and with the launch of its redesigned version in October, the Tesla sedan had a good end to the year before losing its bonus. It ended the year third, with 24,539 units, behind the dacia spring, 29,761 sales, which also lost its bonus since December 15. Since then, Dacia no longer sells the cheapest new 100% electric car on the market, waiting for a possible redesigned version in 2024.

The MG4 also benefits from the end of the bonus

Another model that lost its bonus since December 15: the MG4. This model also benefited from good price positioning, like the Spring, and remains well positioned with a current starting price of 29,990 euros.

The compact thus completed a good year, with 20,072 units sold. It is thus located just behind two models from the Stellantis group: the peugeot e-208 and the Fiat 500.

A sign of market evolution: the Peugeot e-208 registered almost 5,000 more sales than in 2022, but finished in fifth position, while a year ago it occupied first place in the final classification.

Three Renault models and the Mini complete the top 10

In the rest of the ranking we find three Renault models: the Megane, the twingo and theto Zoe. The last two models at the end of their life, the Twingo will have an electric replacement in 2025 and the new R5 will replace the Zoé this year.

The Mini It ranks ninth, with 7,634 sales last year.
