Even without bonuses, the Dacia Spring remains (for now) the cheapest electric car on the market

Out of the Dacia catalog since December 15, the Spring returns with a price that remains the most competitive in the new market. Given the arrival of a certain Citroën ë-C3, more affordable in certain cases.

The Dacia Primavera is back. The cheapest electric car on the market in 2023 will be offered again in the catalog of the Romanian brand, owned by the Renault group, in 2024.

It was no longer available for sale since the implementation of the environmental score on December 15. A score that deprives models assembled outside Europe of an ecological bonus, as is the case of the Spring, manufactured in China.

Once again the cheapest on the market.

The small electric city car has a starting price of 18,400 euros in its basic “Essential” finish. Enough to once again become the cheapest new electric car on the market, taking this list price into account.

The Spring is more affordable than a Renault Twingo E-Tech, for example, at 25,500 euros and 20,500 euros once the bonus of 5,000 euros in 2023 has been deducted. And 21,500 euros as soon as the 2024 bonus, reduced to 4,000 euros, is confirmed with the publication of a decree in the Official Gazette.

Before losing its bonus, the Dacia Spring started its prices at 20,800 euros, that is, 15,800 euros once this aid has been deducted. For this model with the same finish, we see that the brand was able to reduce its price without bonuses by 2,400 euros.

A lease that explodes… and then disappears

On the other hand, if we take into account the rental price, it rises to 154 euros per month (more than 37 months with a first rental of 25,000 euros). Finally, it skyrocketed… as this price and leasing offers disappeared the morning of this return of spring in the Dacia configurator.

Instead of leasing, a classic credit appeared that allows the Spring to be displayed “from 92 euros per month” (more than 72 months, or 6 years, and with 12,400 euros in advance). It is therefore offered here for purchase and no longer for rent.

Previously, the bonus of 5,000 euros made it possible to finance a large part of the first rental. “LLD (long-term rental) for 37 months with a first rental of 7,500 euros reduced to 2,500 euros after deduction of the 2023 ecological bonus of 5,000 euros and 36 rentals of 69.61 euros,” we could read when configuring a Dacia Spring.

A first rental that could even be covered in its entirety by benefiting from the conversion bonus of 2,500 euros. Therefore, in the 2024 version, this first rental has skyrocketed, going from 7,500 euros without bonuses to 12,400 euros.

The most affordable Citroën ë-C3 in certain cases

Looking ahead to Spring 2024, what does the competition offer? In cash price, the Spring is more affordable than the Citroën ë-C3, advertised at 23,330 euros in the basic “You” finish. A model that will also offer a size and performance superior to the small Dacia.

However, Citroën, produced in Slovakia, will be able to benefit from the ecological bonus. Enough to better understand the price chosen by Dacia, which will always be more interesting even discounting the 4,000 euros of the 2024 bonus, which must be confirmed “in the coming days”, according to the Ministry of Economy.

But the ë-C3 will also be able to benefit from the bonus increased to 7,000 euros for less fortunate households: enough to increase its price to 16,330 euros. So it becomes more interesting in spot price than the Spring.

If we analyze the rental offer of the ë-C3, a reservation offer for the basic version You announces a model at 99 euros per month, therefore, more interesting than the Spring. But this reservation offer is based on a bonus of 5,000 euros, which a priori will no longer be relevant in the coming days. The Max version costs 179 euros per month, therefore more expensive than the Dacia Spring.

Although a redesigned version of the Spring is expected next summer, the price war between Dacia’s electric car and its future low-cost competitors has only just begun.
