Jeep and Dodge, first brands to benefit from the new Stellantis “Large” platform

The automotive group will launch its “high-performance” chassis, especially for electric cars. The first models will be launched in North America by Dodge and Jeep.

Stellantis will launch its high-performance chassis for electric cars with the first large sedans and SUVs produced at the end of 2024 under its Dodge and Jeep brands, the automotive group announced this Friday, January 19.

Performance worthy of Tesla or Porsche

With this platform, called STLA Large, Stellantis promises performance on par with the most advanced electric cars, close to those of Tesla or Porsche, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds.

Large battery packs, with a capacity of between 85 and 118 kilowatt hours (kWh), should give them up to 800 kilometers of range.

The platform could also be compatible “with hybrid and internal combustion propulsion systems without compromising the key capabilities of the vehicle,” Stellantis underlines in a press release.

These models will first be manufactured at the Windsor (Canada) factory, mainly for the North American market, where Stellantis intends to launch an offensive in the emerging electric market.

Alfa Romeo, Chrysler and Maserati will follow with models assembled at the Cassino, Italy plant.

Eight vehicles by 2026

In total, eight vehicles from these five brands are planned between 2024 and 2026, in the manufacturer’s widest ranges, between 4.7 and 5.1 meters. They will be offered in drive, propulsion or four-wheel drive versions.

“Our ambition is to create a family of vehicles from a set of well-designed and sufficiently flexible components to cover various categories of vehicles and engines, with a level of performance superior to all our current products and to which each of our customers Our iconic brands will have access,” Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said in a statement.

“The flexibility and agility of this platform are its hallmarks and will be the driving force behind our success in the electric transition in North America,” he added.

STLA Large is one of the four platforms that will allow Stellantis to achieve the objectives of its “Dare Forward 2030” strategic plan.

The group will launch the first model based on its “STLA Medium” platform, the new Peugeot 3008, in February, before it is offered in Opel, Lancia and Chrysler models.
