Last week, fuel prices rose again. A relatively significant rise, with +3.3 cents for diesel, which stands at 1.8302 euros per liter, and +2.5 cents for unleaded gasoline 95-E10, at 1.833 euros per liter, according to the list prices for Friday, February 16 published by the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
Above all, this is the fifth consecutive week of increases since January 12: diesel was then sold at 1.72 euros per liter and gasoline at 1.76 euros.
A return to mid-November prices with two curves that then trended downwards, before bottoming out at the end of the year and early 2024.
Increase in margins of distributors and oil companies
Several explanations: first, the increase in distributor margins, the CLCV association noted last week. These margins increased in January to 26 cents per liter for gasoline and 22.2 cents per liter for diesel, while the annual averages for 2018-2021 from the federation of petroleum industries were around 15 cents.
Crude oil prices are also following an upward trend: a barrel of Brent increased by $3.5 last week to stand at $84.2. Prices continued to rise this Monday, in the context of continued geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and, in particular, the attacks in the Red Sea area, which raise fears of a supply interruption.
