This is a significant change that has taken place this year. Since June 1, the names of all streets and the numbering of all homes has become mandatory for municipalities with less than 2,000 inhabitants.
A precise address for each location
Obviously, all public and private roads open to traffic had to receive a name, as well as the localities, with a number for each house, which did not necessarily happen until now. Enough to correct some problems due to administrative issues such as receiving packages or simply finding a certain location on a GPS navigation tool.
A provision provided for in article 169 of the 3DS law (Differentiation, decentralization and simplification), voted in February 2022 and which set June 1 as the deadline for its implementation for these municipalities with less than 2,000 inhabitants, and June 1 June of last January for those with more than 2,000 inhabitants.
Many French people were worried about this change: it is estimated that nearly a million buildings did not have a precise address before this reform, an official from La Poste explained to AFP.

Without having moved, it is possible that you have changed your address, which must be reflected in the registration certificate. In fact, you must communicate the change of address within one month, otherwise you risk receiving a fourth class fine (135 euros flat rate, 90 euros less).
A fairly simple operation if your vehicle is already in the new registration format (type “AA-123-AA”) with three free changes that will be made on the website of the public service ANTS (National Title Insurance Agency). You will then receive a self-adhesive label that you must stick to the corresponding location on the gray card. After the fourth change, a new certificate is sent to you with a cost of 2.76 euros.
If your vehicle has the old registration format (123-AA-12), any change represents a change to the new format and therefore new plates will be installed in addition to the change of registration document.
