The European Commission will announce on Wednesday the introduction of additional customs duties of up to 25% on imports of Chinese electric vehicles starting next month, the Financial Times reports citing sources familiar with the matter.
This decision comes after an investigation opened last October into subsidies that allegedly benefit Chinese car manufacturers in Beijing.
The EU and China’s Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
These customs duties are expected to significantly increase the costs of Chinese electric cars sold in Europe and risk increasing trade tensions with China.
