An aesthetic restyling but above all a major technological update. In recent weeks, Volkswagen has launched the marketing of a new version of the ID.4. Presented in 2020, this mid-size SUV (4.58 metres long) expands VW’s electric family, the ID models, which notably includes the compact ID.3.
The ID.4 also competes with the best-seller in its category, the Tesla Model Y, but also with other very well thought-out models such as the Renault Scénic E-Tech. However, Volkswagen still has a way to go: while more than 220,000 ID.4s were sold last year, Tesla delivered more than a million of the Model Y.
New screen, new operating system
So, Volkswagen is back with a revised version, both under the hood and in the infotainment system (which we are interested in in our Gran Test Tecno that you will find here in full). Precisely for this reason, the ID.4 now adopts a new 13-inch touchscreen – compared to the previous 10- and 12-inch as an option. The surface of the screen is also much better used and from the first seconds it responds better as we have seen. The latter is now based on a new operating system developed by Volkswagen, ID Software 4.
The graphical interface and menu navigation have been extensively revised, with a better layout of functions on the screen. A customizable bar also allows you to place your favorite functions at the top of the screen. The goal was to make the use of all functions as simple, self-explanatory and customizable as possible.
Volkswagen has also improved the head-up display. The voice assistant, called IDA but which can be renamed (we dubbed the one in our test car Elvis), responds quite well to specific commands.
So, a successful technological bet for Volkswagen? To find out, find below our Big Tech Test dedicated to this Volkswagen ID.4 GTX.
