Tesla in the crosshairs of environmental activists. A Cybertruck on display at the manufacturer’s headquarters in Hamburg was sprayed with orange paint on Saturday, July 13, by two members of the “Last Generation” collective.
According to police, the militants attacked the vehicle at around 9:30 a.m. “People have been detained and are now being controlled,” a spokesman was quoted as saying by the Hamburger Morgenpost.
“On the road to climate hell”
For the group “Last Generation”, the futuristic Tesla pickup truck of extraordinary dimensions symbolises “the way the super-rich are dealing with global warming: armoured in a luxury vehicle, on the way to climate hell”. This vehicle “perfectly illustrates where the anti-social policies of recent decades have led us”, said engineer Hendrik Fauer, one of the activists involved.
He added that “the Cybertruck weighs almost three tons,” which means that “it consumes an absurdly high amount of energy.” “A senseless waste that we cannot afford as a society,” he said.
Although the Cybertruck has been on display for several weeks in various European cities, its approval for commercialization seems impossible at this point due to its size and doubts about the safety of pedestrians in the event of an impact.
