Another weekend of big holiday trips. Starting this Friday, July 19, the day is classified as red by Bison Futé in a large part of France. The traffic forecasting body also warns of the implementation of Olympic routes in the Paris region from July 15, with reduced capacity motorways: the A1, the A4, the A12 and the A13.
A very red Friday
For Friday, “Traffic will be difficult throughout the country and very difficult in much of the east of the country throughout the day,” predicts Bison Futé, with traffic “remaining heavy well into the evening.”
“Slowdowns will be observed on the roads serving the north-east regions (A2, A31), towards Spain via Bordeaux (A10, A63) and towards the south (A6, A7, A9, A75). In Île-de-France, traffic will be heavy from the end of the morning towards the toll booths, the A6 and A10 motorways. It will be reinforced in the mid-afternoon by the flow of commuters at weekends, which will still be numerous during this period,” details the traffic forecasting service.
In the return direction, traffic will also be heavy in Île-de-France and throughout the Mediterranean region.
In this context, Bison Futé recommends:
- leave or cross Île-de-France before 12 noon.
- Avoid the A7 motorway between Lyon and Orange, from 3pm to 8pm, and between Salon-de-Provence and Marseille, from 4pm to 6pm.
- Avoid the A9 motorway between Orange and Montpellier from 5pm to 7pm.
- Avoid the A31 motorway between Nancy and Luxembourg from 10am to 7pm.
- Avoid the A2 motorway between Combles and Belgium from 1pm to 7pm.
- Avoid the A10 motorway between Orleans and Tours from 9am to 9pm and near Bordeaux from 12pm to 9pm.
- Avoid the A63 motorway between Bordeaux and Spain from 6pm to 8pm.
- Avoid the Mont-Blanc tunnel (N205), between France and Italy, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A complete red Saturday
As expected, traffic will be very complicated nationwide for the entire day on Saturday, July 20.
Few areas will be spared: very heavy traffic, particularly towards Brittany (N165), the southern regions and Spain (A10 and A63) and the Mediterranean (A6, A7 and A9).
As for returns, the situation will not be any better: “traffic will be very difficult in the northern and western regions, as well as in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes,” announces Bison Futé.
Tips for this Saturday:
- leave or cross Île-de-France before 6 a.m.
- Avoid the A7 motorway, between Lyon and Orange from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and between Orange and Marseille from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Avoid the A9 motorway, between Orange and Montpellier, from 12 noon to 3 pm, between Montpellier and Narbonne from 11 am to 1 pm and between Narbonne and Spain, from 11 am to 4 pm.

A quieter Sunday
This Sunday, July 21, promises to be quieter nationwide, with the return to green, but traffic will remain heavy in the Ile-de-France region and in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
This will be particularly the case for returns to the Paris region, where high traffic is expected at the various toll booths on the A10 and A6 motorways. “There could be more or less significant traffic difficulties, depending on the sector, between mid-afternoon and late evening,” warns Bison Futé.
